Original Medicare covers very little routine dental or vision care. The good news: there are several ways to add coverage.
- Many Medicare Advantage plans include dental, vision, and hearing benefits.
- Standalone dental and vision plans are also available.
- Discount plans (not insurance) can lower costs at participating providers.
- Some employer/retiree benefits continue dental and vision coverage past 65.
When comparing Advantage plans, look beyond the dental dollar amount — confirm your dentist accepts the plan and what services count toward the limit.
If you only need vision, a standalone plan may be cheaper than switching your whole Medicare setup.
