Top Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Plan

Six questions every Medicare-eligible adult should ask before signing up for a plan.

The right plan answers six basic questions in your favor. If any are unclear, slow down.

  • Are my doctors and hospitals in-network?
  • Are all my prescriptions covered, and at what tier?
  • What's the total estimated yearly cost (premium + out-of-pocket)?
  • Does the plan cover me when I travel?
  • What dental, vision, hearing, or fitness extras are included?
  • What's the maximum out-of-pocket for the year?

If a plan looks great on price but fails one of these questions, the savings can vanish at your first specialist visit.

Bring this list to any review — yours or a parent's — and you'll be ahead of most people walking in.
